ZOETIC CELEBRATES WOMEN'S HISTORY WITH AGNES SCOTT

In Collaboration with the dance program at Agnes Scott College, Zoetic Dance Ensemble presents Celebrating Women's History Month Friday, April 13th through Sunday, April 15th at Agnes Scott College. Zoetic will also be performing at the Inman Park Dance Festival on Saturday, April 28th and Sunday, April 29th. The Women's History Month residency reflects Zoetic’s initiative to foster the creative and contemporary voices of female artists. “Women’s History Month is the perfect time to celebrate our roots and traditions while illustrating the impact female dance artists have on Georgia’s cultural landscape,” says Zoetic’s Director Melanie Lynch-Blanchard.

Zoetic’s artists and Agnes Scott students worked together to explore the societal conventions that were challenged and changed by founding mothers of modern dance, including notable figures like Ruth St. Denis and Martha Graham. “We asked students to consider what is taboo for women today, and whether young women understand their history,” explains Lynch-Blanchard. Bhumi Patel, a senior at Agnes Scott responds: “In a world where we are taught that other women are our competition, here we are reminded to trust, embrace, and form physically intimate relationships with our peers. How else could we dance together? This has caused me to go out into the world with a better sense of self.”
