TRI CITIES HIGH SCHOOL SPRING DANCE SERIES

In celebration of National Dance Week and the 20th Anniversary of the Tri-Cities High School Visual and Performing Arts program, professional dancer and Atlanta native Annique S. Roberts is returning to her alma mater, to present the first annual Tri-Cities High School (TCHS) Spring Dance Series, all day Saturday, April 30th, with a marathon of dance classes from 9am to 6pm.  The program is opened to beginners, intermediates and seasoned professionals of all ages from throughout the Atlanta area.

Dance instruction will be provided by TCHS alumna D. Woods, members of the Jungle Boogie Crew from MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, and dancers from renowned companies such as Alvin Ailey II, Ballethnic Dance Company, and Atlanta Ballet.

Young aspiring dancers and dance enthusiasts will be exposed to a variety of dance styles including: ballet, tap, modern, Afro-Brazilian, West African, Hip-hop, Improvisation, Jamaican Dancehall & Reggae, Mojah, and Yoga.

After touring nationally and internationally with Garth Fagan Dance (Tony award-winning choreographer of The Lion King on Broadway) and Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, Roberts, a 2000 Tri-Cities graduate, is eager and proud to bring the world of dance to Atlanta’s doorstep.

“The Atlanta dance community has the talent and potential to compete with major venues such as New York City, Miami, Philadelphia, and Chicago,” said Roberts.  “The Tri-Cities High School Spring Dance Series is a major step towards exposing the community to the world of dance beyond Atlanta’s borders and informing the community on how to become a major player in the national dance scene. “

An interactive Lunchtime Chat will provide participants the opportunity to engage in an informal discussion with invited guests about the business of dance, auditioning, dancing in college, careers in dance, and life after the stage.

“The possible career path for dancers extends well beyond the stage and being aware of these avenues is vital, not only to the futures of young aspiring dancers, but to the success of educators and administrators as well,” said Roberts.
