How would you describe a room full of phenomenal dancers and choreographers? That's just it, simply phenomenal. This past weekend we attended "Groundwerk", which was a collaborative performance introducing three up in coming dance companies in Atlanta. David Norwood, Brent L. Smith and City Gate Dance Theater Company Inc. made a subtle, yet eye opening introduction on Saturday night.
City Gate Dance Theater Company Inc. took the stage first with two heartfelt pieces. The company's dancers floated across the stage with elegance and grace as they painted the floor with their pointe shoes creating a canvas of soft luxurious movement. The choreography left image stills from the beginning to the end.
Project 6 Movements Dance Company, under the artistic directon of Brent L. Smith took the stage next and captivated the audience. The music swept you away to a far away place. A place full of intricate movements, bold shapes, and photographic images. Brent's piece was an eclectic masterpiece.
Phyzix Urban dance Theatre, under the artistic direction of David Norwood closed the night with a bang. David made the audience feel as if they were a part of a historical tribe. The dancers wore all black with different chinese symbols painted on their bodies. The choreography placed you right in the middle of a tribal ritual. All the keen movements created the picture of a historical tribe in China. The piece was such a historical wonder.
All three companies were absolutely amazing! If "Groundwerk" is just a glimpse into the companies works, we are anxious and excited to see the full productions.
